- Mutual knowledge: take time to get to know a person, don’t hesitate to share moments with them, ask them questions about what they enjoy, ask them what they do…
- Positive experiences and support: observe whether you have enough positive, enjoyable moments shared with a person with whom you would like to improve your relationship. Also notice if you can provide quality moments of presence: more psychological support (caring listening, comforting, soothing), material support (lending things, driving a person, babysitting, hosting…) or \“informational\” support (giving advice when asked, offering contacts, resources…).
- 3 for 1 rule: if you feel you spend more time complaining than talking about positive topics (projects, sharing experiences, humour), try the 1 for 3 rule. One \“negative\” talk (complaining, blaming, problems) for every 3 \“positive\” ones (thanks, thoughts about the future, gratitude, support).
