SAD, also known as seasonal affective disorder, is a form of depression that:
- always occurs during the same period each year; it usually begins in the fall, increases in the winter months, and ends in the spring;
- has been recurring, for at least two years;
400; »>prevents functioning at the usual pace, provides suffering and impairs quality of life.
It is directly related to the decrease in sunlight time and occurs more frequently in countries with latitudes closer to the north. As for the treatments, light therapy is among the most indicated.
Warning! It is possible that the time of onset of depression, or a non-seasonal relapse, may coincide with the autumn or winter periods. It is the recurrence of episodes in this specific period of the year that allows the diagnosis to be made.
